DESCRIPTION:

Expansion and remodel of the passenger terminal which involves the current 70,000 square feet and adding additional 25,000 square feet at project completion. Modification of the main building includes adding an additional boarding bridge to the existing units, as well as adding an additional aircraft apron to the terminal building, and miscellaneous passenger traffic increase-driven improvements.

A new tensile roof structure replaces the existing roof, thereby providing appropriate environmental and light conditions in northern Chile’s desert climate. The new roof is conceived as the unifying element of new and existing works, renewing the image of the airport complex while retaining major design features of other architecture firms dating back to the early 1950´s.

The scope included the construction of new airline offices, new passenger service areas, new facilities for Chile´s Civil Aviation Authority as well development of a government-issued schematic design of a new aircraft rescue and firefighting building (ARFF).
